As complicated as they sometimes seem, pets really are quite simple - They need food, water, a safe and comfortable environment, and lots of love and attention.  Unfortunately, many of us have jobs that require us to travel or we like to go on vacations where taking a pet is just not an option.

My husband Brian and I started this pet sitting company based on those exact needs.  I adopted Callie, our three year old Golden Retriever in May of 2006. At the time, I hadn’t met Brian yet and lived in Denver in a house with no fenced yard.

I had a territory sales position covering four states and was on the road or in the air much of the time. However, like many pet lovers, not having a dog was just not an option! My roommate and several friends were lifesavers, always willing to help me out in a pinch, but eventually I felt like I was running out of favors and maybe taking advantage of a good thing.  I visited several doggie daycare facilities and kennels, but just couldn’t imagine leaving her there. At home, she has the run of the house, sleeps on a big fluffy bed, and is just plain spoiled.

I knew that leaving her overnight in a concrete run with wire fencing would make her think I was punishing her and she probably wouldn’t eat, just sit there pining away for us from the minute we left until the minute we came to pick her up.  Once I married Brian, we had a little more flexibility and I worked at home most days, but Brian’s office was 15 miles away so he didn’t take a lunch break and we found ourselves in the same predicament when I had 12-14 hour days in the field or was out of town. Once in a while we both travelled out of town at the same time or went out of town together.  One day I noticed an ad in our condo complex newsletter about a neighborhood pet sitter named Annie.

Annie was a high school senior that lived right around the block from us. She was very responsible and great with animals. Callie took to her right away. She lived with her parents, little brother and two dogs of her own. I told her what we needed:  the occasional potty break during the lunch hour, and an occasional overnight or weekend sitter. I also told her that sometimes I didn’t know until the last minute that I would need her.

No problem, she said! Her rates were extremely reasonable and she even offered to pick Callie up and drop her off for us. This was a wonderful bonus! Some mornings, we would leave extra early for the airport, knowing that Annie would be over to get Callie around 9am. She kept Callie at her own house and treated her just like one of her own beloved pets. Callie, being the social butterfly that she is, got to play with people and other dogs the whole time we were gone. In fact, I’m not sure she missed us at all, which is really the ultimate goal right? When we returned and opened our front door, there she was, just like we left her. Stress-free, healthy, happy and safe. I can’t tell you how perfect this solution was for us and now we want to pass this same peace of mind on to you!
